PARADIP: Two school students died and 20 were injured when the pick-up van in which they were travelling overturned near Anandpur Chhak under Ersama police limits on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Bigyan Behera of Mathsahi and Dillip Behera of Durgapur villages. While five among the injured were discharged after treatment at Ersama hospital, another five in a critical state were referred to SCB Medical at Cuttack, said Ersama medical officer Pramoda Kumar Nayak. Parents of the remaining 10 injured reportedly took them to SCB Medical for check-up. All the 22 were students of Binapani High School at Olara village under Padampur gram panchayat. They were returning home after appearing for the HSC exam at Jiraelo High School, about 15 km from their school.While locals blamed reckless driving for the accident, the driver managed to escape. The police have seized the vehicle and a case has been registered.Describing the incident as unfortunate, Collector Narayan Chandra Jena announced a compensation of ` 10,000 each to the two bereaved families from Red Cross Fund.
