Two policemen injured in Naxal attack

Two policemen were injured in an encounter with Naxals in a dense forest in insurgency-hit Narayanpur district of Chhattisagrh today, police said.

The gun-battle took place late this evening when a joint team of the Special Task Force (STF) and district force was patrolling in the forests of restive Orchha police station

limits, 400 kms from here, a senior police official said.

According to the officer, the security personnel were on an anti-Naxal operation in the region since Thursday night in Orchha area of Abhujmad region.

The search team was ambushed by a group of Naxalites when it reached the forests between Becha and Ilam villages.

The ultras opened indiscriminate firing on security personnel in which the two were injured, he said.

However, when the police retaliated, the Naxals hid in the forests, he added.

Additional forces were rushed to the spot, the official said, adding the injured were being taken out of the jungle.
