Two students of the Pachaiyappa’s College were arrested for allegedly assaulting a student of another college near the Anna Arch at Anna Nagar on Thursday.
The assault, said to be a case of mistaken identity, left Murugesh, a student of Loyola College, with a head injury.
On Thursday, Pachaiyappa’s student Bala Murali was roughed up by a group of students from Presidency College over previous enmity.
Following the assault, the Presidency students boarded an MTC bus (route no 27) and fled the spot.
An enraged Bala Murali soon called up his friends, who rushed to his aid.
The group then pounced upon Murugesh, apparently mistaking him to be a Presidency student, and fled the spot. Based on a complaint, police took first-year Computer Science student Anandan and second-year Zoology student Raghavendra into custody.
They were booked under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) of the IPC.
Meanwhile, a group of Pachaiyappa’s students attempted to besiege the Aminjikarai Police Station condemning the arrest of their collegemates.
Initially, they stuck to their demand that the duo be released, but eventually dispersed following a stern warning from police.
However, the arrested duo were later released on own bail.
