Srinagar: Two militants were killed as the Army is engaging with a group of six militants in Gurez sector of Bandipora district, north Kashmir. The militants tried to infiltrate India in the early hours of Tuesday morning but the Army, which had intelligence inputs on the attempt, took on the group during their attempt.

As the two militants were killed, the others hid themselves and continued to fire on the Army, making it difficult for the Army to retrieve the bodies.

Last month, the Indian Army had thwarted multiple infiltration bids by killing 14 militants in various encounters over four days along the LoC in north Kashmir.

On June 10, the Army killed a militant trying to infiltrate in Gurez, before which five militants were killed a day before in Uri.

On June 8, three militants and a jawan were killed as the Army foiled an infiltration bid in Naugam sector of Kupwara district. This came a day after three other militants were killed attempting the same.

All the four infiltration bids were aided by the Pakistani forces who provided active support, including cover fire using heavy calibre artillery, the Army's Northern Command had said in a statement.

In 2017 alone, the Army has foiled 25 infiltration attempts killing 43 armed intruders along the LoC.
