PIRAVOM: Cases of violation of model code of conduct were registered against two LDF MLAs - Suresh Kurup and Koliyakode Krishnan Nair for visiting polling booths. The Election Commission had directed the leaders to leave the constituency on Thursday, the last day of the pre-poll public campaigning. And there were instructions that leaders from other constituencies should not be present in the Piravom constituency during the polling day.The police said that Krishnan Nair had visited booth No 127 (Govt High School, Koothatukulam) and Suresh Kurup had entered booth No 125 (Govt U P School, Mangalathuthazham). CPM district secretary M V Govindan dismissed the charges. “The leaders had gone to a local CPM leader’s house in Koothattukulam to condole the demise of his daughter,” he said, and added that no leader had purposefully stayed back in the constituency. Meanwhile, Saju Paul MLA had to face the wrath of UDF activists when he visited the constituency.
