Chennai: Two Indian fishermen were injured as the Sri Lankan Navy attacked them with nylon ropes at sea near Katchatheevu early on Tuesday morning.

According to sources, the fishermen are from Tamil Nadu's Rameswaran area. This attack came days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Sri Lanka.

During his meeting with Sri Lankan President Sirisena, Modi had taken up the issue of detention of Indian fishermen for allegedly poaching in Lankan waters.

He said fishermen from both sides must reach a mutually beneficial decision.

Ahead of this visit, Sri Lankan Prime Minister had warned that his Navy would continue firing at Indian fishermen who entered their territory. He had said, "If someone tries to break into my house, I can shoot. Why are you coming into our waters? Why are you fishing in our waters? Stay on the Indian side. There will be no issue."

What's your reaction?
