MANGALORE: The arrest of Mahantesha Honnappa Annigeri (26) and Somashekar (29) has failed to draw smiles on the faces of Govardhan’s family members. The members sprawled on the floor below the photograph of murdered taxi driver Govardhan (32) with a sandalwood garland in the living room of their house in Bejai-Kapikad, are still engrossed in reading news reports about the two men who had murdered Govardhan for gain.None wore an expression of relief that the murderers of Govardhan had been finally nabbed. His father, Narayana K, breaking the silence says, his sons’ soul will not rest in peace if the real murderer is not arrested.Govardhan’s elder brother Hemanth joins his father adding that he was contemplating on demanding a high-level probe into the case.Even after pouring over different newspapers, the grieving family still was searching for an answer on why Govardhan was murdered. The joy that had erupted in the house when Govardhan succeeded in owning a tourist car, however, did not last long. The car is now parked at Urva police station and nobody is sure who will pay the next EMI.Hemanth says he heard the confession statement of two men arrested by the police.Their modus operandi to make easy money seems far-fetched, he says. The police admitted that the accused had no history of committing crimes.“However, what stands out is the professionalism in which Govardhan was murdered and robbed,” he reveals.Dalit Sangarsha Samithi (DSS) members are planning to meet first Mangalore commissioner of police before going to place any demand for the CID for a high-level probe, he adds.Recollecting the support extended by locals, members of DSS, Kordabbu Daivastana Committee, Hemanth says he and his family would have to lead the rest of their lives with a troubled conscience if innocents were framed in the case.Govardhan had many reasons to believe 25 was his lucky number. Born on March 25 1979, Govardhan received the keys to his car on 25. Unfortunately, he went missing on August 25, his uncle Ramachandra recollected.FRUITLESS PROBEOn the insistence of family members and DSS, police spent much time interrogating a travel agent.Govardhan had accused the travel agent of assault.Police sources said the agent’s involvement in the murder could not be proved even after the agent was subjected to interrogation for more than seven times
