With the recent introduction of sponsoredtweets in the country, an advertising platform on Twitter, you also, like celebrities, can earn money for sharing sponsored content within your Twitter stream.     All you have to do is sign up for sponsoredtweets.com. Advertisers registered on the site will view your profile, and if tweets are what they are looking for, they will begin making you offers, which are mostly too good to resist. Once you accept the offer, you get paid for your tweets. You can either set a price for your tweets or choose to get paid on a cost-per-click basis. “Twitter or social networking sites are expanding big time in India,” says Sorav Jain, Thinker in Chief, EchoVme, a digital marketing firm based in Chennai. “Considering the growth of social networking sites with the recent coverage of Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption campaign gaining momentum, I think bringing Sponsoredtweets to India is a smart and strategic move,” he adds.  According to a study by Nielson in May 2011, social networking sites in India have approximately 30 million users, 60 per cent of whom were open to being approached by brands online. Keeping these facts in mind, UTV tied up with US-based IZEA Holdings INC, which specialises in social media marketing, and introduced sponsoredtweets.com to India recently. “The area of Twitter as an advertising platform had not yet been used in India, and that’s how we decided to collaborate with IZEA,” Sameer Pitalwalla, Senior Vice President, Interactive- UTV, told a tabloid recently. Information available on sponsoredtweets.com assures that these sponsored tweets would not be blindly auto-inject messages. The site also ensures that it would be based on the guidelines and examples provided by the advertiser and need to be approved by the user before it gets tweeted out.But Sorav has a word of advice. “The user should have the right to choose the wording, design the tweets and personalise them, because tweets by celebrities can have a large impact on the followers.” [email protected]
