They will depose before commission headed by Commissioner of Railway Safety

A group of ten railway officials from Chennai, comprising Travel Ticket Examiners (TTE), who were travelling on the ill-fated Tamil Nadu Express, left for Nellore on Wednesday to depose before an inquiry commission.

The Railways has ordered a full-fledged inquiry into the fire accident, involving the Chennai-bound train, in which 32 passengers were charred to death and several others injured during the wee hours of Monday.

The officials would depose before the commission headed by Commissioner of Railway Safety D K Singh on Thursday, narrating the events on the day of the tragic accident.

According to sources, the TTEs departed by the New Delhi Grand Trunk Express on Wednesday evening.

Claiming that the TTEs aboard the Tamil Nadu Express woke up to a rude shock as the S11 coach caught fire on the outskirts of Nellore, the sources said, “The unexpected jolt experienced by them at an unusual time woke them up.”

Senior officials from the commercial department from Chennai are likely to follow suit and visit Nellore for meeting the  commission in the next few days.
