Tribals demand scrapping of Kuntala Power Plant

ADILABAD: The Kuntala waterfall welfare committee (Jalapatha Parirakshana) on Monday took out a rally in front of the collectorate and gave a memorandum to the district collector opposing the setting up of the mini-hydel power plant in Kuntala. Advasis staged a dharna in Neradigonda mandal in Adilabad district.They threatened to organise massive rasta rokos by Adivasis from all districts if setting up of the power plant is not cancelled.According to committee members Suryapalli Sujatha and Doluth Rao, the plant would eventually lead to disappearance of the surrounding tribal villages that consider Kuntala waterfall as their holy place.
