BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar-Kendujhargarh Fast Passenger train was flagged off from Bhubaneswar railway station on Wednesday.Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Patsani waived the flag to signal the first journey of the train. On the occasion, he said the fast passenger will be a boon for the people of Keonjhar. ECoR General Manager Indra Ghosh said, the zone had received more funds this year for various projects, traffic facility and passenger amenity works. ECoR has been given the responsibility of introducing 11 new trains and extension of two existing ones. Seven new trains shall also pass through ECoR, he added.Of the new trains announced in last Railway Budget, four have already been introduced. Similarly, Sambalpur-Nizamabad and Visakhapatnam-Nizamabad Express have already been extended to Nanded in Maharashtra. All this has been possible due to active assistance of the Odisha Government, he added.Ghosh said Railways have made considerable progress on construction of new lines and will shortly open the section between Lanjigarh to Bhawanipatna, Khurda Road-Begunia and Haridaspur-Jenapur third line. Planning work on doubling of Puri-Delang section is also at an advanced stage, he added.The ECoR GM said, the survey for new broad gauge lines between Rayagada-Gopalpur, Junagarh-Ambaguda, Khurda Road-Rajathgarh by-passing Bhubaneswar, Kantabanji-Jeypore, Sambalpur-Brahmapur, Balangir-Nawapara, Dantewara-Malkanagiri, Talcher-Phulbani and Junagarh-Malkangiri are in various stages of progress. MLAs Ashok Chandra Panda, Bhagirathi Badajena, Bijaya Kumar Mohanty and Subarna Naik spoke on the occasion. Divisional Railway Manager, Khurda Road, SK Mohanty was present.
