BANGALORE: Disturbance in one’s sleep due to the noise of a speeding vehicle or the honking horns does gets irritating after a long tiring day of work. But when this becomes a regular affair you lose interest and get used to it.Yes, that is what has happened with the residents at 5th main, Byatarayanapura New Extension. The residents are facing this issue over the past many years and the reason for that is the road from Kavika factory junction to Hoskerehalli via Ganapatinagar. It was a two-way traffic road, however, eventually, it was converted to an one-way traffic road some years ago due to the increase in the number of vehicles hitting the road.Since the Byatarayanapura New Extension 5th main road is the only alternative road, all vehicles from Hoskerehalli to Mysore road via Satellite bus station or Byatarayanapura Police Station use this road. This is mainly because the commuters reduce a lot of time and fuel by using this road.“We face lots of problems as traffic jams are very common here. This road hardly measures up to 15 meters. Along with two-wheelers and cars even many heavy vehicles commute on this road. With lack of space to move about vehicles get jampacked. Even the roads are not tarred levelly. They are uneven and due to this the base of cars and other vehicles collides and gets dent,” said Rohith S, a resident of 5th main, Byatarayanapura. The residents claim that with lack of necessary speed breakers the road is accident prone. On an average 5-10 accidents take place per month. The traffic mess starts after 5 pm and stretches up to 10 pm. The traffic is visible even in morning hours too.“Due to uneven planning the road has never ending problems. The garbage is strewn on the roads as there is no proper dumping place. This garbage poses serious threat to the bikers as they once squid their bikes over the garbage. There are no major accidents, but many are left with fractures and others with bruises. The drainage also collapses due to the high pressure of the heavy vehicles. With no footpaths, it is another big menace” said Manju Kiran, a resident.“The situation gets worse when it rains as the garbage strewn blocks the drainage. Since this is a small road, electric poles are in the corner of each junction which poses serious danger,”said Stephen Sandeep, a area resident. The 5th main road falls under both wards-Gali Anjaneya Ward and Deepanjalinagar ward. When the City Express spoke to Gali Anjaneya Ward Corporator B S Anand he said, “This problem will surely disappear when the road from Kavika factory junction to Hoskerehalli is widened. I will immediately send a proposal to the BDA to take up the widening.”
