Film stars Mithun Chakraborty and Debashree Roy have come under the scanner in a drug smuggling case.

New Delhi: Two Kolkata-based filmstars, Mithun Chakraborty and Debashree Roy, have come under the scanner of the Nacotics Bureau after the producer of a film that they had acted in was arrested early this month for his alleged involvement in drug smuggling through his IT industry of Salt Lake.

Mithun and Debashree were involved in a film produced by DP Kedia Film Private Limited, which is owned by Sanjay Kedia and his brother Pranay Kumar Kedia.

Sanjay Kedia was arrested early this month for his alleged involvement in drug smuggling through his IT industry of Salt Lake. Sanjay continues to be in judicial custody since his arrest.

The Nacotics Bureau has already sealed his residence and office at Salt Lake. Sanjay's wife Manika Kedia, too, has been in the dock as the Bureau has issued an arrest warrant against her after her refusal to appear before it in response to the summons issued to her.

Police have also raided a Howrah factory producing pharmaceutical items, which is owned by the Kedias, in connection with the case.

On Sunday, the Narcotic Bureau of Eastern Region said it will also interrogate Mithun and Debashree in connection with the case as they had played the lead roles in his film.

"Interrogation of the film stars was inevitable as the bureau has evidence of utilisation of a huge amount of money, which might prove that unlike Mumbai film industry, mafias are a part of the film industry in Tollygunge," Bureau sources told PTI.
