TN: Angered advocates lock up cop in court
Advocates reportedly locked up a crime branch inspector in the judicial magistrate court for one-and-a-half hours.

Cuddalore: Advocates reportedly locked up the inspector of crime branch in the judicial magistrate court for one-and-a-half hours, following an argument between the magistrate and the inspector, in the court regarding a case on Tuesday. An advocate who witnessed the showdown said, “A case was registered in Thirupapuliyur police station by Selva Sivaguru against Loksingh of Kallakurichi. Both were engaged in jewellery business. In one business deal, Sivaguru charged Loksingh with cheating 308 gram gold jewels worth approximately Rs 11 lakh. Based on Sivaguru’s complaint, crime branch police arrested Loksingh and produced him before the magistrate court on August 31. Police also recovered Rs 14,800 from Loksingh and handed over the amount to the court. However, the magistrate reportedly declined to allow the seized amount.”

It is said that the details given by the police regarding the amount did not satisfy the magistrate. The police again handed over the seized amount to the court on Tuesday but again the magistrate declined. “Arguments erupted between magistrate Pugazhendhi and inspector Karthikeyan regarding this. On getting wind of the argument, advocates locked up the inspector in the JM-III court hall around 2.30 pm.”

Cuddalore Superintendent of Poilce Pakalavan, ADSP Ramakrishnan and DSP Sundra Vadivel arrived at spot to rescue the inspector but the advocates refused to budge. Later, the SP held talks with the district judge, after which the inspector was released, said an advocate, present at the spot.
