New Delhi: With Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President A P J Abdul Kalam visiting Cuddalore from January 3-7 in connection with the 94th Indian Science Congress, tight security arrangements have been made.
Singh will inaugurate the five-day Science Congress at the Annamalai University in Chidambaram on January 3.
Kalam will inaugurate a children's science exhibition on January 5.
The theme of the Congress would be Planet Earth, said Director, Marine Biology, Annamalai University, T Balasubramaniam.
Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, Scientific Adviser to Prime Minister, C N R Rao, Principal Scientific Adviser, R Chidambaram and Aricultural Scientist M S Swaminathan will be present at the occasion.
Police said about 3000 personnel would be deployed at the Helipad and Annamalai University campus.
Bomb squad would check the University complex thoroughly and metal detectors would be put in place.
Police are being extra careful as a retired IIT professor of Delhi was killed in a terrorist attack at the Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore, in December 2005.
