Mumbai: In a case of mindless violence in Mumbai, four assailants hammered nails into a twelfth standard student's head and robbed him.
The assailants hammered three nails into 19-year-old Subhash Umre's head when he was on his way to Inner-Wheel School to write an exam.
The attackers allegedly snatched Subhash's wristwatch and took Rs 60 out of his wallet, and hammered two-and-a-half inch long nails into his skull.
Subhash miraculously remained conscious during the entire episode and called up his brother who rushed him to a nearby hospital.
The doctors who operated on him say that the full extent of damage would be clear only after the post-operation CT scan is done.
The Ambarnath police have registered a case of attempt to murder and voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery.
Investigating officer Ashok Pawar, said that after the incident, security has been beefed up at the examination centres in the area.
He also added that there might be a different angle to the case because going by the economical condition of the student, theft might not have been the aim of the accused.
