NEDUMBASSERY:  Three sub inspectors of the Immigration Department of Cochin International Airport here were suspended by Intelligence Security DIG Vijay Sreekumar on Monday. The move is part of an effort to clean up the functioning of the department, which is in the centre of controversy for illegally allowing passengers to leave the country by accepting hefty sums as bribe. Subinspectors S Samjith, C S Biju and M K Babu have been placed under suspension pending inquiry.
It was alleged that three passengers were allowed to leave the country by a Qatar Airways flight, without the mandatory immigration clearance, a month ago. It may be recalled that a subinspector of the Immigration Department was suspended last month when a passenger, who was cleared by him, was detained for possessing fake visa in Dubai in November, 2010.

Several passengers who had been 'cleared' by the Kochi Immigration personnel, were also deported from other countries for possessing fake documents.

A superintendent of police and and a deputy superintendent of police had been recently transferred in this connection. Five constables were also sent back to their parent unit.

What's your reaction?
