This Karnataka Man, After Losing Arm In Accident, Works Tirelessly To Support Family

We often come across some individuals who inspire us through their positive approach to life. One such man is Sunil. A 38-year-old man from Hassan district of Karnataka, who is living life on his terms after losing one hand in a tragic accident. He drives a four-wheeler and delivers water cans to different houses with only one hand. He manages his family and earns an income to afford the basic amenities for each month. Sunil quashes a popular notion that disabled people need constant support and care. Sunil of Kamasamudra village of Holenarsipur taluk has a family of five members including father and mother. Being the only member with income, Sunil shoulders the responsibility of managing his family. He was a Karnataka Electric Board employee before the accident. He had a government job, which was celebrated by his friends and family members. Sunil was electrocuted and lost his right arm in 2009. A year later, he was expelled from his job.

Rejection from the job and losing the right arm didn’t waver the spirit of Sunil. He knew driving and therefore got engaged in the business of supplying drinking water bottles at homes with one hand. Working from morning to evening, Sunil earns a monthly income of Rs 12,000 per month. He manages his family with this income.

Sunil took an auto on rent to supply water bottles at home. He pays them a daily rental fee of Rs 400. He drives himself to all areas of the city and supplies approx 20 litres of water daily. Sunil receives Rs 30 for supplying water to shop fronts in the city. Sunil’s life is an inspiration to many residents of Hassan city. Many appreciate him for living a respectful life after facing problems like disability and job loss. Unlike many people who resort to begging, Sunil of Hassan City believes in earning an income with his hard work and dedication.
