PANDALAM: The three-day procession carrying the Thiruvabharanam, the attire in gold to be adorned on the idol of Lord Ayyappa on the Makaravilakku day on January 15, began its journey from Pandalam Valiyakoickal Sree Dharma Sastha temple on Friday.The procession carrying the Thiruvabharanam boxes on head by a 15-member team left the Valiyakoyickal temple at 12.45 pm after sighting the ‘Krishnaparunthu’ in the sky above the temple. Thousands of devotees, even from the neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, witnessed the procession leaving the temple.Chittayam Gopakumar MLA, Travancore Devaswom Board member K Sicily and Devaswom commissioner N Vasu, District Collector P Venugopal, Sabarimala Ayyappa Seva Samajam national general secretary Kummanam Rajasekharan, Akhila Bharatha Ayyappa Seva Sangham vice-president D Vijayakumar, Malethu Saraladevi, District Panchayat member Girijakumari and temple advisory committee president Krishnakumar were among those present on the occasion.A 20-member Devaswom team headed by Aranmula Devaswom assistant commissioner T P Sreekumar and special officer Abu will be in-charge of the procession.Pandalam Valiyaraja’s representative Hari Varma will accompany the Thiruvabharanam procession up to Sabarimala. A 15-member armed police personnel will give security to the procession. After leaving Valiyakoickal temple, the procession was given a traditional reception at Ullannur Sree Bhadradevi temple.At Ullannur temple, thousands of devotees had darsan of Thiruvabharanam, which left for Aranmula at 3 pm. The procession halted at Ayroor Puthiyakavu temple on the first day, after touching Aranmula, Punnamthottam, Pampadimon and Cherukole.After leaving Ayroor temple at 3 am on Saturday, the Thiruvabharanam procession will touch at Idappavoor, Mookannur, Peroor, Ranni-Vaikom, Vadasserikara, Madamon before the noon halt at Perunad Sree Dharma Sastha temple.After taking rest, the procession will reach Laha Forest Inspection Bungalow on the second day at 7 pm, before a traditional reception at Koonamkara Sabari Saranashramam.On the concluding day of the procession, the Thiruvabharanam procession will halt at Plappally, Nilackal Sree Mahadeva temple and Attathode before rest at Valiyanavattam near Pampa.After leaving Valiyanavattam, the Thiruvabharanam procession will touch Neelimala Top, Appachimedu, Sabaripeedom before the reception at Saramkuthi by the team led by Sabarimala Devaswom executive officer M Satheeshkumar.On reaching sopanam, in front of the golden flag mast, after climbing the Holy Steps, the Thiruvabharanam procession would be received by Travancore Devaswom Board president M Rajagopalan Nair, Additional Chief Secretary K Jayakumar, TDB members K Sicily and K V Padamanabhan.Later the Thiruvabaharanam will be brought to the sreekovil where thantri Kandararu Maheswararu and Melsanthi N Balamurali will receive it.Deeparadhana will be conducted after adorning the Thiruvabharanam on the idol of Lord Ayyappa at 6.30 pm.
