The 13th fast track court sentenced 23-year-old youth to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him for murdering a woman.
The accused Chetan Shetty, a resident of Sanjaynagar, hails from Mangalore.
According to the police, Shetty suffered losses in his business. To clear his debts, he turned to crime. On the pretext of repairing computers, he visited one Seetharam, and offered service. At Seetharam’s house, he stole gold ornaments and a mobile phone all worth Rs 2.5 lakh.
When he was trying to flee, Seetharam’s maid Radha, the victim, caught him red-handed and raised an alarm. Fearing further consequences, he smashed her head with the UPS.
To ensure she was dead, he stifled her with a pillow and fled with the booty. Based on a complaint by Seetharam, Malleswaram police arrested Shetty on November 9, 2008.
Upset drunkard tries to kill mother
Upset with his mother for not giving him money to consume alcohol, an unemployed man, tried to slit her throat and kill her at their residence in Thyagarajanagar. According to police, when the victim Prabhavathi, 65, was asleep, her son Girish, 38, tried to slit her throat with a blade at 6 am on Thursday. However, her neighbours rescued her. It is said that Girish was an habitual drunkard and quarreled with his mother, demanding money for alcohol. On Wednesday too, they had an argument, following which he tried to kill her.
