BANGALORE: At a time when efforts to minimise the risks of global warming are on, Garuda Mall is doing its bit to ‘Save The Earth’ through its annual saga ‘The Great Garuda Shopping Fest 2011’. The environment-friendly fest was inaugurated by Kannada actor Ganesh and environmentalist Salumarada Thimmakka on Friday.“Global warming is indeed worrisome. We need to raise awareness about preservation of environment. Garuda Mall’s initiative to incorporate the theme of Save The Earth is very commendable,” said Ganesh after inaugurating the festival.Noted Environmentalist Salumarada Thimmakka, known for her efforts in planting more than 250 trees along the Bangalore-Nelamangala highway, was felicitated for her selfless service by B G Uday, managing director, Garuda Mall.“It is a unique concept. This is an effort by the mall to contribute something to society, and not merely remaining a collection of shops,” added Ganesh. The Fest in its 7th year now, will look to educate shoppers about global warming and deforestation.Replicas of trees and animals, made specially by artiste Mohan B Kere, have been installed inside the mall. The theme of the shopping fest last year was Seven Wonders Of The World. The fest will go on till January 1, 2012 and shoppers stand a chance to win a bumper prize of Maruti Suzuki SX4 during the 45-day shopping extravaganza.
