A 17-year-old boy was killed and two others were injured after a speeding car allegedly hit their bike on the Western Express Highway in Mumbai’s Dahisar suburb on Friday.
Two friends- Aditya Velankar (17), Karan Rajput (18) were returning from a nearby Shailendra High School while on a bike, accompanied by another friend, Piyush Shukla, who was on a separate bike. The incident took place when a speeding car hit Karan’s bike from behind, causing both Karan and Aditya to sustain severe injuries, news agency ANI reported.
In the crash, Karan had fallen on the left side of the road, and Aditya on the right. Aditya suffered serious head injuries, bleeding from his ears and nose, while Karan sustained injuries. The driver, however fled the scene.
Piyush and Karan rushed Aditya to a nearby hospital where the latter succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The Dahisar police have registered a case under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) and Section 281 (rash or negligent act) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. They have also scanned the CCTV footage of the accident site to identify the car owner and have launched a search operation to nab the driver.
Earlier in another incident, a mob beat up a motorcyclist after he allegedly pushed a woman pedestrian and attacked her with his helmet in an incident of road rage in south Mumbai, police said on Sunday. The police arrested the biker, Shahen Alam Sheikh (33), and later released him after serving him a notice following the attack on Saturday night, an official said.
According to the police, the woman was waiting for a taxi on Nizam Street under the JJ flyover when the accused, who was on his motorcycle, hit her leg.
Last week, a Ganesh mandal worker was killed and another was severely injured after a speeding BMW car allegedly hit them during Ganeshotsav preparations in Mumbai’s Mulund. Two workers– Pritam Thorat and Prasad Patil, of the Mulund Cha Raja Ganesh Mandal– were putting up banners near the Aakruti Tower in Gavanpada area when a speeding BMW hit and ran over them.
