A teacher was on Friday arrested for carrying a bottle of pesticide in a school at Sasaram in Bihar's Rohtas district, close on the heels of death of 23 school students who took poisoned midday meal in the state's Chapra area. When the students saw a bottle of pesticide thymet in the hand of a teacher Manoj Chaudhury, they raised an alarm and informed the matter to the principal of a government middle school at Mayurdihra village, the police said.
The principal informed Dimara police station which took the teacher into custody. The teacher told the police that he had brought the pesticide for use in vegetable plants grown in the school premises, sources said. District Magistrate Sandip Kumar and Superintendent of Police Vikas Barman reached the police station on getting the information, sources said.
Recently, 23 children died after eating poisonous mid-day meal in a primary school in Chapra after which extra precaution is being maintained in implementation of the free food programme for the students.
