Udayan Mane of Bangalore extended his lead to four shots after another brilliant round of 4-under 67 in the third and penultimate round of the Tata Steel Jharkhand Amateur being played at the Par-71 Golmuri Golf Club in Jamshedpur on Thursday.
The stocky golfer was 18-under 195 for the tournament. Local lad Karan Taunk added a 68 to his overnight score and was lying second at 14-under 199 after 54 holes. Simarjeet Singh was a far third with a total of 204 while Trishul Chinnappa was further four shots behind Simarjeet. Jaibir Singh was placed fifth at 209 while Lokesh Lakshman was sixth at 210.
Udayan, after a birdie on the second, lost a shot on the seventh made a birdie on the eighth while making an eagle on the ninth to take the turn at 3-under. On the back nine, Udayan began with a bogey but recovered with two birdies on the next three holes. A birdie on the 16th was followed by a bogey on the 17th.
Karan, meanwhile, made two birdies on the second and seventh but made a bogey on the ninth. Karan began his return journey with back to back birdies on the 10th and 11th hole. However, he dropped a shot on the 14th before signing off with a birdie to stay in contention for the title.
