To express their devotion to God, some individuals are willing to undertake extraordinary measures, to demonstrate their profound love for the deity. One such remarkable story comes from Tamil Nadu, where a devout follower of Lord Shiva has embarked on a silent fast as a gesture of reverence, with plans to visit the Ram temple shortly.
The devotee, named Phoolpandian, hails from Thazhaiyuthu in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. According to an exclusive report by News18, Phoolpandian is deeply devoted to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped at the Kattu Rama temple, where he observes his silent fast. It is reported that he prepares his meals and can often be found fasting at the banks of the Thamirabarani River.
Phoolpandian dedicates much of his time to meditation and yoga within the temple premises. In a pledge to safeguard the sanctity of the temple and the Thamirabarani River, he has chosen to maintain silence. Reports suggest that after 21 days, he intends to journey to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya to offer prayers to Lord Ram.
Paramasivan, a friend of Phoolpandian, sheds light on the cultural significance of the region and its revered river. He said, “The Thamirabarani River is deeply intertwined with our culture. Not only is it mentioned in Sangam literature, but also various epics.” Expounding on the river’s significance, Paramasivan reveals, “Thamirabarani derives its name from Sage Agasthya, one of the Saptha Rishis.” He further explains that according to belief, a dip in the holy waters of Thamirabarani absolves individuals of their sins.
Paramasivan then alludes to Arugankulam, a sacred site believed to have been traversed by Lord Ram, a devout follower of Shiva, during his journey to Ayodhya. According to tradition, it is the very place where Lord Ram granted liberation to Jadai. Paramasivan underscores their support for their friend Phoolpandian, a devoted follower of Lord Shiva, as he prepares to embark on his pilgrimage to Ayodhya.
In a display of faith and devotion, Phoolpandian’s silent fast and forthcoming journey to Ayodhya serve as powerful expressions of spiritual commitment and reverence towards the divine.
