New Delhi: Afghan President Hamid Karzai has confirmed that Pakistan's Ambassador to Afghanistan, Tariq Azizuddin has been abducted.
Pakistan authorities however have declined to comment on it so far.
Azizuddin was going to Kabul from Peshawar by road on Monday when he was kidnapped.
There are reports that Azizuddin may have been kidnapped by pro-Taliban militants and suggest he is being held by the Taliban who are possibly hoping to exchange him for their leader, Mansoor Dadullah, who was captured in Baluchistan two days ago.
However, security forces say that Dadullah was killed in fighting with security forces in Helmand's Girishk district on Saturday night.
NATO had even issued a statement confirming the feared Taliban commander had been eliminated in a US-led operation.
The one-legged Dadullah has been reported to have been captured or killed several times in the past, but this time the authorities appeared sure he was dead.
