Lucknow: The Shankaracharya of Dwarka Peeth, Swaroopanand Saraswati, has alleged that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) have weakened the Ram Mandir movement.

He has also claimed that the lock of the disputed site was opened by former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi, after consulting him.

Speaking to media in Allahabad, Swaroopanand said, “The locks were opened by Rajiv Gandhi after my consultation. But RSS and VHP people took out victory procession which, in turn, hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community. They have weakened the Ram Mandir movement. They want Hindus and Muslims to always fight among themselves. That is why they make sure that people like Owaisi continue to spit venom so that Hindus continue to hate Muslims.”

Speaking further on the Ram Mandir issue, Swaroopanand said that there was enough evidence in the Skanda Puran about the birthplace of Lord Ram.

“We have enough proof that the disputed site is the birthplace of Lord Ram and we will prove it. There was no mosque ever on the disputed site. As per the decision of the High Court, the land of Ram Janam Bhoomi has been divided into three parts – the middle portion has been given to Ram Lala, one to the Nirmohi Akhara and the third was given to the Muslims. But we want that the entire land should be given for the Ram Temple.”

“I am not against Muslims, but if they build a mosque next to a temple then there will always be a problem. That is why a mosque should not be built next to the temple,” he added.

Swaroopananad also gave the example of a Muslim ruler who had said that if a Mosque is broken then they can take compensation and build another in some other place. He also claimed that his side was confident that they will prove that the disputed site is the real birthplace of Lord Ram.
