CHENNAI: What’s the recipe for one big space adventure?47 students, three teachers and four days in NASA. For the budding astronauts of Vidya Vikas in Coimbatore, who will get an opportunity to delve into the mysteries of the universe as well as learn the nuts and bolts of rocket science, their journey to NASA will give them a chance to understand the space a bit more.As part of the World Travel Club (WTC) Space Kidz programme that focuses on using innovative educational initiatives to inculcate scientific temperament among school students,  students of Vidya Vikas will be departing from Chennai, to the Kennedy Space Centre, Orlando for a three-day ‘space odyssey’.Flagging off the program, Consul General of the United States, Jennifer McIntyre told the enthusiastic bunch of students to make use of the valuable opportunity to learn about space science. “As future scientists, you need to make the impossible, possible,” she said, urging them to share their culture and values with their American peers. On a lighter note, she told the students to have fun and recount their experiences with their friends once they are back from their space adventure. Speaking to  City Express, M Vaishnavi, a visibly excited class 11 student of Vidya Vikas, said, “I want to become an aeronautical engineer and this trip will help me get closer to my dream.” The children will be given exposure to rocket science through workshops, interactive sessions with renowned astronauts and space simulation programmes where they will get to experience zero gravity. After the four-day camp, the children will have a formal graduation ceremony.‘The Educational Mission to NASA’ that was launched by WTC Space Kidz program in September 2010, has organised trips to the space hub for 400 students in one year. The second batch  comprising 60 students will be leaving on October 26 to Kennedy Space Centre. The students who take part in the programme are shortlisted by the individual schools based on their aptitude for science and maths.
