KOCHI: The students of St Teresa’s College helped renovate and improve the campus and the learning atmosphere of Binanipuram Government High School as part of their National Service Scheme (NSS) camp. The NSS special camp for 2011-12 was organised from December 23 to 25, 2011 at the school. A pre-camp orientation was given to the NSS volunteers on December 21 by college principal Sr Helen A P, also a former NSS programme officer. A series of lectures was organised for the volunteers. The camp also aimed to facilitate community interaction for the student volunteers.The volunteers cleaned and painted the school building, set up a new garden in the school premises and a full-fledged library for the school. An free eye camp was organised for the local community and free spectacles were distributed to 30 BPL card holders. They visited the production plants of Binani Zinc Ltd and also the Pakalaveedu, a day care centre. A Kalasandhya was organised for the local community and talented students of the school and local people also participated. Sanjeev P Thomas, president, Binani Zinc Ltd, inaugurated the camp on December 23 at Ghanshyam Binani Community Hall, Binanipuram,  Sr Helen presided over the function. A manuscript Niswanam was released by MLA Hibi Eden. Padmini K K, headmistress, Binanipuram GHS, Bindu Rajeev, panchayat member, T J Titus former member of panchayat, former MP Chandran Pillai, parents, staff and students of the school and some local people attended the camp. Krishna Reghu, Ashitha V P and Mischelle were the volunteer secretaries who were guided by programme officers, Usha Nair, Latha Nair R and Teresa Felitia.
