CHENNAI: Over 150 students of Prince Venkateshwara College arrived on Monday at the University of Madras to stage a protest against “atrocities” that their college authorities were allegedly subjecting them to. It all began after three students were allegedly strip-searched by college authorities to check if they were flouting a ban on cell phones in the campus. The humiliated students decided to lodge a formal complaint with the Vice-Chancellor of Madras University G Thiruvasagam.“We have been on strike outside the college since Wednesday, but the administration has not bothered to do anything,” said Ram-esh, a student. Students arrived at the university after 1 pm and their representatives were allowed to meet the V-C. However, a little after they began raising slogans against their college, the arrival of their PE teacher and a member from the college administration prompted the students to hide their faces .When contacted, college authorities said that this strike had been instigated by “a rebel group” and refused to comment any further.
