Thiruvananthapuram: The state wide hartal called by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in protest against the murder of their district leader has affected the normal life in the state. Police have registered a case against eight in connection with the murder and according to police two among them, are identified are the CPM workers.
Private vehicles plied on the roads but some incidents of stone pelting at vehicles has been reported from various districts.
In Alappuzha, protestors damaged three lorries and stones were pelted on buses at Ernakulam and Kollam. In Thodupuzha, there was tiff between a shop owner and the workers as they tried to forcefully close down a shop.
Shutters of shops were down across the state and a couple of state transport buses plied but only with police security.
The body of RSS leader Manoj was kept at the Kannur bus stand for the public to pay their homage and was later taken to Thalassery for the cremation.
