The state government is committed to recover the encroached revenue lands which was identified by the A T Ramaswamy Committee, said Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue Minister K S Eshwarappa here on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters after holding a high-level meeting of the officials of the BBMP, BDA and revenue authorities in which A T Ramaswamy also participated, Eshwarappa said that over 41,303 acres of government land has been encroached upon in and around Bangalore by over 45,000 people.
“Among the encroached land over 8,334 acres of land had been grabbed after forging documents,” he said.
He also informed that the state government has already taken an initiative to recover over 2,300 acres of land in Jala hobli in Devanahalli taluk which was acquired illegally by forging documents.
Informing that the state government would study the issue carefully before taking a final decision on the issue, Deputy Chief Minister also said that a Bill which was passed in both the Houses of Karnataka Legislature on the prevention of land grabbing, in 2007, still awaits the President’s nod.
“All efforts are also on to get the Bill cleared as early as possible,” he said.
He also expressed regrets that another Bill which was also vetted by the both the Houses recently to regularise the houses constructed in revenue land in rural areas is awaiting the Governor H R Bhardwaj’s consent.
