BANGALORE: The M S Ramaiah Medical College Hospital is all set to add one more feather to its cap. If everything goes as per plan, the hospital that is ever ready to provide health care at affordable cost to needy people will gear up to have Centre of Excellence in advanced surgical and medical skills shortly.Speaking to City Express, Dr D V Guruprasad, Chief Executive Officer, Gokula Education Foundation (Medical) said, “This facility will not only help our doctors and students but also aid doctors from other hospitals to hone their skills,’’ says Dr Guruprasad. The hospital management is looking forward to have one more facility that will teach new aspects of medicine. Apart from this, the hospital will also have a cadaver facility for the benefit of doctors and students. ‘’This facility will be useful for doctors and students of pathology and orthopaedics,’’ said Dr Guruprasad. Many people have a notion about M S Ramaiah Hospital not being accessible for middle and lower-middle class families for treatment. The huge structure and vast campus might have led people to think that the hospital is meant for those with deep pockets. However, Dr Guruprasad begs to differ. “We provide special treatments at government hospital tariff. Yes, we have separate facility to treat patients who can afford to pay. We offer the same treatment at affordable cost for patients from middle and lower-middle class families. Same doctors attend patients at these two facilities — Super Speciality Hospital and Medical College Hospital. There are occasions where the doctors forego fees while treating patients from poor families,’’ narrates Guruprasad. The hospital is contemplating to have ACE (accident, cardiac and emergency) care facility too. This is aimed to integrate all the intensive care units of the hospital. “We will have a dedicated team of doctors for this facility to monitor the patients round the clock,’’ said Dr Guruprasad. It may not be an exaggeration to say that most of the private hospitals in and around Mathikere, Sadashivanagar and other areas refer critically-ill patients to M S Ramaiah Medical College Hospital. ‘’Our founder late M S Ramaiah’s mission was to serve humanity. Most of the patients get treatment free of cost. Only 20 per cent of the patients make nominal payments towards treatments,’’ says Guruprasad.M S Ramaiah’s Hospital is amongst the few hospitals where attendants of patients are provided food thrice a day free of cost. “Providing food to the attendants of patients is part of our Narayana Seva. We provide breakfast, lunch and dinner for the attendants free of cost,’’ said Guruprasad. As part of service to society, around 16 medicos and doctors of the hospital visit the primary health centre at Kaivara to treat patients. The Godukla Education Foundation has also adopted a school for differently-abled children at Kaivara. “The school conducts classes from second standard to SSLC. Those who passed SSLC are given lift operator jobs at the hospital. Most of the lift operators on this campus are physically challenged,’’ said Guruprasad.
