A soldier and a terrorist were killed after an encounter broke out between the Army and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara region Saturday morning.
The exchange of fire took place on a forward post in Kamkari, Macchal Sector in Kupwara near the Line of Control (LoC), the Army said. According to the defence officials, five army personnel including a Major rank officer suffered were injured and one terrorist was killed. However, one soldier succumbed to his injuries soon after.
In a post on X, Indian Army’s Chinar Corps issued a statement saluting the sacrifice of the braveheart.

The officials said that this was a Border Action Team (BAT) action. In the morning hours, a BAT team with 2-3 armed personnel attacked an Indian army bunker in the area. The intruders took advantage of bad weather and poor visibility along the LoC.
Two intruders managed to return to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) amid the intense gunfight that lasted for hours, the army said. Identification and affiliation of this Pakistani National is being ascertained, it added.
However, all the five injured army personnel have been shifted to the hospital, while some have been airlifted for medical treatment.
The BAT generally comprises special forces personnel of the Pakistan Army and terrorists.
Earlier on Wednesday, another encounter took place between the Army and terrorists in Kupwara in which a soldier and a terrorist were killed. The Army launched a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kowut, Kupwara. The terrorists launched the attack on the troops on Wednesday. In the firefight, a soldier was injured and one terrorist was killed. However, the soldier succumbed to his injuries soon after.
Earlier on Tuesday, another in infiltration attempt by terrorists was foiled by the Army in Battal sector, in which a soldier was injured in the exchange of fire, and later succumbed to injuries.
