New Delhi: Asia's biggest fashion event kicks off on Wednesday with 141 designers, including an unprecedented 77 on the runway, at the Autumn Winter 2011 edition of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.
The five-day fashion extravaganza has grown bigger and richer over the years with increased buyer participation as they flock to the event every year from across the globe.
Forty-one runway events showcasing the design calibre of India's finest young designers will be staged at the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), Pragati Maidan, from April 6-10, 2011.
The bi-annual fashion week is the convergence point for some of the biggest names in the Indian fashion industry. This edition will see stalwarts such as Tarun Tahiliani, Varun Bahl, Ritu Kumar, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Manish Malhotra and a befitting finale by Sabyasachi.
Neeru Kumar, who incidentally debuts at WIFW this year, will be the opening designer. The National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad graduate is unquestionably known as one of the best and the most creative designers in the country for hand woven textiles.
The 12th edition hosted by the Fashion Design Council of India will also be a platform for more than 60 new designers and 11 new models strutting in the finest garb.
