KOZHIKODE: The CPM resorted to pressure tactics to free the party’s Koothuparamba area committee office secretary C Babu after he was arrested on Friday in connection with the T P Chandrasekharan murder case. The SIT released him after M V Jayarajan, CPM state committee member, practised Kannur-model politics in Vadakara to good effect.Sending shock waves to CPM’s Kannur lobby, Babu, 36, hailing from Peravur was taken into custody by the SIT on Thursday night. The CPM leaders, who were keeping a measured silence even after the arrest of two local committee members and its former branch secretary in connection with the case, were up in arms with the arrest of Babu. While frantic CPM leaders staged a protest march to the Koothuparamba police station on Friday morning, Jayarajan and a few leaders staged a sit-in protest in front of the Crime Detachment office, Vadakara.Sources said that the SIT took Babu into custody on the basis of the statement by the accused Saneesh alias Sanu that gang leader Sunil Kumar alias Kodi Suni and another man visited the CPM’s Koothuparamba area committee office after the operation on May 4.Police said Babu was arrested for giving shelter to the gangsters in the party office at Koothuparamba. He was granted bail on two sureties on Friday evening.Judicial First Class Magistrate Rajiv Jayaraj remanded Vadakkayil Manoj, former secretary of CPM’s Kunnothoparambu branch committee, in police custody for 14 days.While M P Jabir, 35, of Azhiyur was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days, Sanoj, 32, of Kizhakkayil was remanded in police custody for four days.
