New Delhi: Half the world might be sympathising with Shilpa Shetty who was at the receiving end of racial barbs in UK reality show Big Brother, but not author Salman Rushdie.
The renowned British author lashed out at the actress and said she should quit it if she could not "stand the heat".
Though he termed her treatment on the show as "unpleasant", he emphasized that she has the option to walk out.
Rushdie had harsh words for Shilpa’s arch-rival on the show, the now-evicted Jade Goody. She’s a "foul-mouthed ignorant girl", Rushdie said, "She is famous for nothing except being on reality TV."
Talking about racism, he explained that Indians were extra-ordinarily prejudiced about skin colour and more so about religion. There could be no country without such "narrowness", Rushdie said.
