New Delhi: Serena Wiliams is through to the third round of the Australian Open.
Serena struggled en route to beat unseeded Anne Kremer of Luxemborg in a second round encounter at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Wednesday.
Serena, a two-time champion at the singles and doubles events at the Australian Open, beat Kremer in straight sets.
Though she was pushed to a tie-breaker in the first, the American stepped up her game in the second to beat her oppoenent 7-6, 6-2.
Serena Williams will now play Nadia Petrova in the third round of the women's singles.
Third seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia, on the other hand, was in sparkling form against Moniqe Adamczak of Australia in their second round clash.
The former US Open champion cruised through her match 6-2, 6-1 in an hour.
Twenty one-year-old Kuznetsova's best effort at the Australian Open has been a quarter-final spot in 2005.
