New Delhi: Indian Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen suffered from a sudden illness and fainted at a dinner party in Dhaka on Monday, reports reaching here said. Sen, who was on a tour of Bangladesh since Sunday, is said to have fallen unconscious due to dehydration.
On Monday, Sen had met Bangladeshi Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus at what was hyped as the meeting of the two Bengali 'greats'. The dinner was in honour of both the Nobel Laureates.
Bangladesh has celebrated Amartya Sen's visit as the home coming of a great economist as he was born in undivided Bengal.
Sen's illness was sudden and unexpected as the great economist was not reported with any health problem in the recent past.
According to reports, Sen fell unconscious for a few minutes in the middle of the party but regained his sense within minutes. Sen was not admitted to any hospital and he himself refused any urgent medical care.
According to media reports. American billionaire and philanthropist George Soros too was present in the dinner party, among others.
