BHUBANESWAR: With the first ODI between India and West Indies scheduled for Tuesday at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, the Commissionerate Police on Saturday conducted security drills in the Twin Cities. The two teams would arrive by a chartered flight on Sunday at about 6.30 pm. Police conducted a dry run with a cavalcade plying from Biju Patnaik Airport to the team hotel here and then to Cuttack. As part of the drill, team buses were flanked by SOG teams. Police personnel were deployed on the entire route. There is a lot of hype for the match which was sold out on Saturday. Police Commissioner BK Sharma, who led the security dry run and inspected arrangements at the stadium, said the ticket sale trends showed that a full house is expected with the number pegged at about 45,000. “We are beefing up the arrangements in view of the huge turnout expected on Tuesday. Tailor-made plans have been drawn up,” Sharma said. Since there will be four full galleries, the Commissionerate Police has decided to erect 25-foot high-nets to prevent missiles from being hurled at the ground. Besides, all the galleries will be segregated to keep the crowd under control while surveillance will be heightened with increased police presence. Since many fans returned without ticket, the Orissa Cricket Association has decided to install at least eight giant screens outside the stadium for the cricket lovers. Special parking has been arranged for the team vehicles, BCCI officials and VVIPs. Two of the Team India members Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja will unveil the DRIEMS Stadium at Tangi near Cuttack on Sunday.
