Pune: Relatives of murdered Wipro call centre employee Jyoti Chaudhury, who was allegedly raped and murdered 10 days ago, spoke to the media for the first time in Pune on Tuesday.
They expressed dissatisfaction at the security measures and safety procedures followed by Wipro Spectramind. At a press conference, they emphasized that security systems were inadequate at call centres and something needed to be done urgently to protect female employees.
“The security systems and provisions are clearly not enough. It’s very simple to understand this because as we know from the police the driver is just in the 7th or 8th standard so this really shows that there is a gap of sensitivity and many gaps need to be filled as far as the security situation is concerned,” said Shishir Pundalik, Jyoti's brother-in-law.
Her relatives said they were grateful that the Pune police were quick in investigating the case and arresting Jyoti's alleged murderers.
Jyoti was allegedly raped and murdered by a call center driver 10 days ago after being picked up for work late in the night.
Her body was recovered near the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. The driver Purushuttan Borate and his accomplice are in police custody, and have reportedly confessed to the crime.
Wipro had been under fire ever since Borate revealed that he was involved in three previous criminal cases.
