Ahead of the inauguration of the bio-diversity conference, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation with the support of several others roped in sculptors to carve out sculptures made of stone and scrap material to beautify the twin cities. The sculptors, including students, have done their job and carved out 15 stone and 51 scrap sculptures.
But several of these finely chiseled structures are lying at the JNTU Fine Arts College even today instead of enhancing the beauty of several locations in the twin cities.
The GHMC Commissioner had announced that all of the sculptures would be placed in parks and junctions by Sept 28.
As many as a dozen stone sculptures and scrap-weld sculptures remain at the JNFA university campus, which hosted the workshop for carving out sculptures as part of the city beautification program. The students or in other words, the sculptors, on the campus have no clue about the future of their products.
However, GHMC officials explained that the big sculptures have been moved out already and installed in different parts of the city. “There are only some small sculptures remaining at the campus waiting to be moved out to be installed at identified locations. It should not take much time. And one of the remaining big scrap structures would be brought to the GHMC headquarters soon,” said the official.
According to Srinvas Reddy, principal, JNTU fine arts college, the remaining sculptures would be moved out by Thursday. “We are only concerned with the workshop but apart from that, we are helping them with proper installation and display of sculptures, proper angles and balance of sculptures for best public view and for also prevention of any damage to the sculptures and for a longer life,” he said. Out of the 22 major corridors for CoP-11, GHMC had identified important junctions like Shilparamam, Mehdipatanam, Madhapur, Jubillee hills, Rajbhavan road, Tank Bund etc for installation of the sculptures.
