Chennaities will have an opportunity to view India’s largest, longest and most visited mobile science exhibition in the city this week.
A mobile exhibition train, the ‘Science Express - Biodiversity Special’, operated on the request of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India will be stationed at the Central railway station between August 11 and 15. The science exhibition will be open for public viewing from 10.00hrs. to 18.00 hrs. This can be accessed without any entry fee.
Science Express-Biodiversity Special is an innovative and unique mobile exhibition train, mounted on 13 specially designed air-conditioned coaches and scheduled to travel from June 5 to December 22 across the country. The train will halt at 52 railway stations in the itinerary.
According to a press release, the current decade (2011-2020) has been declared as the United Nation’s decade on biodiversity and United Nations decade for deserts and fight against desertification. The exhibition aboard the train is fittingly based on the theme 'biodiversity', the press release here said.
The exhibition aims to showcase the wide array of biodiversity in the country and the conservation measures adopted thereof. The exhibition also showcases aspects of climate change, water, energy conservation, environment and legacy of the science express. Apparently, the train also houses a popular hands-on lab as well as a teachers’ training facility. The Ministry of Railways is running the fifth phase of the Science Exhibition-Biodiversity special, the release said.
The Science Express Exhibition train has so far covered over 68,000 km across the country during its previous four phases. With over 63.60 lakh visitors during its 220 halts or exhibitions on 801 exhibition days, the Science Express is now the largest, longest and most visited mobile science exhibition in India.
The release further said that students visiting the exhibition have enjoyed learning about cutting edge research in science, explained through interesting audio-visual exhibits and interactive tools. After the successful run over four phases, this iconic train is now being launched as
'Science Express - Biodiversity Special' on its fifth phase this year, the release added.
