THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In connection with its silver jubilee celebrations, St Mary’s Central School, Poojappura, conducted an inter-school Western musical concert - Marian Beats-2011 - on Saturday. St Mary’s, Alappuzha, bagged the Chev T Thomas Memorial ever-rolling trophy for the best musical band. This competition was exclusively for the schools under the Ernest St Mary’s Educational and Cultural Society. The schools which took part in this competition were St Mary’s, Thiruvalla; St Mary’s, Kollam; St Mary’s, Alappuzha; Holy Mary’s, Kayamkulam and St Mary’s, Pathanapuram. Saroop Abraham of St Mary’s, Thiruvalla, was adjudged the best male vocalist, while Neha Afzal of St Mary’s, Kollam, secured the best female vocalist award. A cash prize of Rs 2,000 each was awarded to them. Sharu Roy of St Mary’s, Alappuzha, and Ansa George of St Mary’s, Alappuzha, won the second prize with a cash prize of Rs 1,000 each. The host school, St Mary’s, Thiruvananthapuram, performed the curtain-raiser concert. Noted film director T K Rajeev Kumar was the chief guest. Famous western vocalists from the city Louie and Vivek Thomas were the judges for the musical concert.
