New Delhi: Scores of school students on Wednesday took pledge to abstain from alcohol, tobacco and all types of drugs during a programme held in the Mehrauli area. The oath-taking programme, Anuvrat, was organised by Archarya Tulsi Birth Centenary Committee at Adhyatmik Sadhna Kendra.

It saw participation of eminent personalities like former president APJ Abdul Kalam, Nepal government's Minister of Information & Communication, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi, actor Anil Kapoor and director Satish Kaushik, according to a press release.

"I have worked a lot with Archarya ji Tulsi all over India in this Anuvrat movement. It was our vision to create heaven on earth. Every school student should follow rules of Anuvrat for ignited and bright India," the release quoted Kalam as saying.

Anil Kapoor said, "It was a wonderful event. I have seen a lot of NGOs who have worked for the uplift of the society, children and women, but Anuvrat started by Acharya Tulsi is the only one in India that is working to create an addiction-free nation."
