Mumbai: The terror alert in Mumbai was issued after school children reported spotting "suspected terrorists" near the Uran Navy Base.
Two students – a girl and a boy – saw four to five people in Pathan suits and army fatigues with shoulder bags.
Sources claim that the locals students say they overheard the men say the words "school" and "ONGC."
School mates of two girls who claim that they saw strange looking men told CNN News18 that these two girls were aged 12 and studying in 8th standard.
One of their friends said "these two girls saw 5-6 suspicious men carrying rucksack bags."
"They heard them talking about ONGC, School etc. They got scared. After mustering courage, they rushed to school teacher to inform her about what they saw. The teacher immediately informed the Uran police station and the police arrived within few minutes", the friend added.
The school children who spotted the suspected men are being questioned by Navi Mumbai Commissioner of Police as well as other top police officials in Uran to gather more details.
The government run power giant ONGC has a plant at Uran and also a few container terminals.
Maharashtra Home Secretary KP Bakshi told CNN NESW18 that Commissioner of Police Navi Mumbai and the Inspector of coastal security are monitoring the situation and the verification process.
He said, "If need be we have force one on stand-by. But it is not yet deployed".
