Jaipur: 82-year-old Pakistani microbiologist Dr Khaleel Chisti's prayers to return to Pakistan finally have been answered. Though only for five months, Dr Chisti will be able to return to his native country as per the Supreme Court's orders. Dr Chisti was ecstatic when he heard this news.
Dr Chisti came to India in 1990 to attend a relative's wedding.
His son Tariq Chisti, who flew in from Jeddah, too was happy at his father's release. But there are conditions that have been imposed by the apex court for the interim arrangement.
The court has directed Dr Chisti to deposit Rs 5 lakh in the Supreme Court registry and surrender his passport at the Indian Consulate in Karachi when he reaches Pakistan.
The apex court has also asked the Pakistani doctor to return to India by November 1, just in time before his appeal is heard by the court.
