NEYYATINKARA: A youth was killed and his uncle seriously injured when they were stabbed allegedly by members of sand-mafia at Vellarada on Monday night. Praveen Kumar, 29, of Arattukuzhy, who was also the unit secretary of the DYFI, was killed and his uncle Binu Kumar seriously injured when they were attacked by Vijayan alias Milma Vijayan and his close aide Lovlin at Arattukuzhy junction. According to police, the accused were members of sand-mafia and one of their sand-laden vehicles was seized by Vellarada police a week ago. The accused suspected that Praveen and his friend Mohanan leaked the information to police.On Monday night, Vijayan and Lovlin arrived at Arattukuzhy on their two-wheeler and tried to manhandle Mohanan. It was in this melee that Praveen and Binu were stabbed. Praveen received two deep wounds in his chest and stomach. The injured were rushed to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital and Praveen succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning. Binu is still in a critical condition. The accused, Vijayan and Lovlin, were nabbed by the public and handed over to the police.
