Srinagar: The distraught parents of the Army jawan who committed suicide in Samba on Thursday now suspect foul play. They have alleged that their son was too strong to give up and kill himself.
"He called up two days back and said he was not treated well and that there is a life threatening situation," said the jawan's father, Vishwa Mohan Pillai. His wife Aarti Kumari too said her son told her he was in trouble and that nobody could understand his situation."
But the parents also alleged that not just him, even fellow troopers were treated like slaves at the Samba camp.
Tension escalated at the unit on Thursday after the jawan allegedly shot himself after being denied leave.
A court of inquiry has been ordered, while Defence Minister AK Antony has asked for a detailed report into reported incident of a face off between the jawans and officers.
