SABARIMALA: The hill shrine of Lord Ayyappa was opened on Monday evening for the five-day monthly poojas for the Malayalam month of Idavam. Melsanthi G Balamurali opened the sreekovil of the temple at 5.30 pm. in the presence of thantri Kandararu Maheswararu. As a practice, hardly any pooja was held in the evening.Sabarimala Devaswom executive officer M Satheeshkumar said that laksharchana would be held on the second day of the Malayalam month on May 16 and fifth day.He also said that sahasrakalasam and kalabhabhishekam would be the special rituals to be conducted on all the five days of the monthly poojas. Both rituals would be held under the leadership of the thantri and melsanthi during uchcha pooja.Udayasthamana pooja, pushpabhishekam and padi pooja would be the other poojas to be held on the days, Satheeshkumar said.The shrine would be closed on May 19 after athazha pooja and Harivarasanam.
